Dedicated...ish...

Before my run today...actually wearing a shirt I found from another saweet runner's blog.  skinnyrunner.com...this girl is a machine!!
Today's run was, well, it started off on the wrong foot.  I had to turn back after mile .5 because I forgot I had to go to the bathroom before I left in the first place.  I got all fancy and started my actual stop watch, then forgot to stop it and re-start it again with the whole bathroom trip...so I have really no idea what my mile pace was today.  Whatever.  From my un-trained eye, I'd say it was a pretty good 7.5 miles...and if you add the .5 there and back bathroom trip, then it's 8.5 total.

My Easter Bunnies...
I've decided that the internet is dangerous for me for many reasons, one of them, and maybe the most detrimental is comparing myself to other runners out there.  Lady runners.

Man, it's so easy for me to let myself feel like a turd compared to some a lot of the other runners out there. They are fast, and good and so dedicated.  They're committed, and they eat right.  They run races every chance they get, and they get faster every time.

The internet is a place for people like me to either to go one way or the other.  I could, in fact, see myself as a turd runner, and wish I had the time, and the stamina and the gumption to run every morning at 4:30 a.m.  I could curse myself for not running the last local 10K or half marathon.  I could feel a little bad only running a total of 20 or so miles this week..

But, that's all I had time for!  I can't, physically get up at 4:30 in the stinking morning...who am I kidding...ever!  I try!  On Thursday, my alarm was set for that, in fact....and I got up at 6:00...not even enough time to wash my hair!

I love to run.  I really do.  It makes me feel better in so many ways.  But, I just can't let it dictate my every day, or move or thought.

I'd love to be the lady who runs 40+ miles a week.  10 miles a day.  For one, I could probably eat gobs and bags of Starburst Jelly Beans.  For two, I would have the clearest mind EVER!  I might be able to one day make a list, and bring it with me to the grocery store, and buy the things on it without backtracking my way through Kroger 10 times!  Who knows!

I let those ladies, who run their legs off, motivate me!  They are so awesome!

But, until my sweet angels are self sufficient, and I have 2 hours a day to spend working out, my 5 or so miles every other day will have to do.
These guys are where it's at!
That's it for me for now.  Maybe this summer I will be able to bust out a mid-week 10, on top of a Saturday long run too.  That would be sweet.

My favorite time to run is in the morning.  But I sort of have a rule that it has to be after the 5:00 a.m. hour.

Until summer comes, and I can have a little more leeway in my workout schedule, I'll have to just check out the super sweet runners on line, and run my mid-week long runs as the sun is setting instead of rising.
That's fine with me.  I'd rather that than nothing at all!

The Easter festivities are on the horizon.  The kids are excited to see what the Easter Bunny has left for them in the morning.  He may or may not have decorated the mantel with dollar store garland.  I hear he loves that stuff.  And, I'm pretty sure he'd leaving Starburst Jellybeans...those are a must.

Marshmallow Drop prize...a coloring book!

Marshmallow Drop...and dare I say...a pretty deranged looking Bunny!
Last minute egg coloring...always so much fun...for me!

Do you compare yourself with other runners...work-outers?  Do you wish you didn't?

I do, let's just be ourselves, and do OUR BEST!  Let's let others motivate us!  That's what it's all about!

  1. I do at times compare. Melissa, I have an elliptical at home so I have NO excuse. I would love to hear how other people motivate themselves.

  2. Well you motivate me! I don't run but walk (bad lungs.) When ever I need some inspiration I just make a point to read your blog or your latest post is on the top of my feed. I love the fact your not a 4:30 am runner (I mean that is insane to be up that early...) and your honest. Also you love shakes just like me, (sorry I love Visalus shakes not shakeology) Keep up the good work lady!
