The Laws of Physics, A Snack, and Coconut Oil

This morning's run was nice.  Since I'm not recording time, I'm just kind of running for relaxation.  Hopefully burning some muffin top while I'm at it.  I've heard that running and walking the same distance burns the same amount of calories.  Although walking is super excellent exercise, calorie burn is a bit more complicated than just the distance you travel.  I found this article in Runners World.  It's older, but facts is facts.  I am in no way shape or form an exercise physisist, nor can I even spell that.  Please take what I say with a grain of salt.  Just one grain.

On to more exhausting topics...

This is what happens when I go to Sam's Club to buy a quick snack for the pre-school activity night.

Really?  Why is it that when I get flustered...because girl on the left is doing acrobatics in the seat of the cart and boy on the right is on a mission to find the beeping fork-lift...I buy everything that crosses my path.

I wanted to buy this shirt and the red Nike running shorts next to them, but I said, "No, you came here for one thing...just go get what you need".  You can see that went over real well.

On a less exasperating note, I've found the cure for...everything.  It's Coconut Oil.  Who knew you could put the "World's Best Cooking Oil" on everything to make it all better.  I've been slathering in on my skin, including face, and hair lately.  I don't know how I've been getting by without this stuff my whole life.  It's all natural and all sah-weeet!!  I have my dear friend to thank for this...Thanks Missy!!
I've done everything but cook with the stuff.  Since it is ultimately cooking oil, I should probably give it a try.  But then again I'd have to, well, cook.

Are you an impulse shopper?  Or do you stick to the list?
Have you ever used coconut oil?

  2. I have cooked with coconut oil, great with fish. Someone made tuna steaks cooked in coconut oil for us once and they were so good. And your shopping trip looks like mine.

    1. That sounds good...I wonder if coconut oil would work well with salmon? Maybe worth a try. :)

  3. Oh, you know I love coconut oil. I like it mostly for cooking and baking but occasionally I use it for body care.

I'm tooootally an impulse shopper. It's bad news. I try to stick to the list but I always get at least one item that I just "need" even though it wasn't on my list.

    1. Maryea, I really need to sift through your recipes and find some stuff I can make with coconut oil. Didn't you have a give-away a while back with it?

  4. I have not started cooking with coconut oil yet.

I'm a pretty good shopper until recently. I'm trying to get away from processed foods and remove dairy from my cooking (for my daughter). It has meant a lot of trips to the Natural Food Co-op and a little more planning menus by what cuts of meat are available at Costco and what veggies look good, as we get back to meat with sides meals, as opposed to the one-dish wonders with cheese or cream of chicken soup that I am so used to preparing.

Great blog, I found you via Happy HEalthy Mama... I will keep reading.

    1. Thanks so much, Jane! I'm so bad at planning meals. This is the one thing I have got to get better at. Summer's almost here and I'll have some free time to work on family meals!
